CTV’s Undercover Probe of Canadian Garages

CTV teamed up with the Automobile Protection Association to go under cover, testing the honesty of some garages around the city of Toronto. The result for most garages was what a lot of people suspect when leaving their mechanic – that they were overcharged for what was done, and that some work that was done was not necessary.

Time for an oil change, or are you not sure? That could be a problem. Your car relies on your to keep it from getting… sick. If you don’t keep the moving parts well lubricated you could run the risk of seizing up. Generally you want to get one done every 5,000km – or per your vehicle manufacturer’s guidelines. Both extreme hot and cold weather can cause premature failure of one of your largest assets. The oil filter should ideally be replaced with every oil changed as well.
